Girls Rock! Canberra is a community arts organisation working to increase the participation of young people of marginalised gender identities in music. Marginalised gender identities include girls (trans and cis), trans-boys, and gender diverse young people. We create safe and inclusive spaces for young people to learn, create and collaborate through promoting inclusivity, diversity, respect and accessibility. We focus on programming for Canberra and neighbouring regional and rural areas.
Our Rock Camp program aims to provide a safe environment for young people (10-17 years old) of marginalised gender identities to express their creativity, take pride in their accomplishments and learn not to apologise for making some noise.
Our next Rock Camp will run from Monday 26th of September to Friday 30th of September, 9am-4pm, with a showcase on Saturday 1st of October. Camper and intern applications are CURRENTLY OPEN! Applications close Monday 22 August 🌈
Mentor applications are currently open, and close Sunday 31 July.
We ran our first program in January 2016, and have run annually since at Ainslie Arts Centre, Braddon. Sign up to our newsletter and follow us on social media to hear about future rock camp opportunities. Girls Rock! Canberra was the first Girls Rock Camp to be established in Australia, and is part of the national Girls Rock! Australia network.
